At La Miocherie, we offer you a selection of games and toys Made in France for all ages. But what are the different names or labels? How to find your way around? Welcome to ...
The different Made in France labels
Toys made in France
The " Made in France " label: This is the case for 85% of the items offered on our site and in our Paris 15 store. To benefit from this label, the product must be:
- entirely obtained in France (all components come from France and all manufacturing stages take place in France),
- or have undergone its last substantial transformation in France.
This mention is getting tougher from year to year, but remains attributable quite largely because of its second criterion on which interpretations can vary. To reassure, some brands specify that their products are 100% made in France. There is also a much more demanding certification, it is "Origine France Garantie" ⬇️
The “Guaranteed French Origin” Certification:
This is a private independent certification (it is not a French state label). It is awarded by an independent certification body . Checks are then carried out each year to verify that the product is 100% made in France and at least 50% of the manufacturing costs (including raw materials) of the product are of French origin .
In this category of champions of 100% made in France, we find in particular our favorite little educational toys from Le Jouet Simple .
The “ Living Heritage Company ” label
It is a label of the French State which distinguishes French artisanal and industrial companies with rare and exceptional know-how.
In our selection, you will find in particular La Maison Tirot and Maïlou Tradition which have obtained this highly coveted label.
Only 1,450 companies benefit from this label throughout France.
We come to the part that annoys us the most, the one that makes our hair stand on end, the one that makes us growl...
Oh, that stinks, misleading displays.
Well, it's quite simple, they are EVERYWHERE, and particularly present for games and toys and textiles for children. So, we pay attention to mentions such as: "designed in France", "designed in France", "French design", "assembled in France", "developed in France", "packaged in France", "French craftsmanship", "French brand", "French tradition", etc...
Add to that French flags, cockades or Blue White Red color charts and we are right among the little rotten people who play on the codes of Made in France ;-)
These mentions mislead us by suggesting an origin "made in France" when this is not the case. The number of customers who come to our Paris 15 store looking for French wooden toy brands and who discover that 95% of the manufacturing is in Asia ... One per day at least :-)
Be careful, what annoys us is not the factual origin of the products, it is the artistic vagueness cleverly maintained by the marketing of the brands to mislead us .
In short, we don't like being taken for two-week-old rabbits, and we like it even less if you are.
This is why we clearly display the country of manufacture on ALL items on the physical or virtual shelves of La Miocherie. France, Spain, Italy or Belgium, you are aware!
If you want to share any of your experiences with misleading displays, the comments are open, and I will add them to this article!
